baseball...

so another season has ended for mr. carson king. this season had ups and downs but we were really lucky to have such great coaches and teammates. carson has improved even more, he is a super fast base runner, has an arm like his dad and uncle, and is an amazing catcher. my favorite moment this year is when after striking out carson called me to the dugout (he never does that) looked at me and said, "mom, i want you to go punch that umpire in the face"...i looked over at the 12-year-old umpire and asked, "why carson?" "because he called 3 strikes on 3 balls". i then told my son how that would be horrible to do and that he needed to respect the umpire's judgement. my sweet usually super shy son proceeded to yell for me to go "punch that stupid umpire in the face!!!" i don't know what was funnier, carson's scene or the thought of me walking up to a 12 year old and punching him the face.

please bless this weather never ends....

i just have to say that i love fall weather and yes even this amazing hot fall weather. i am trying to go to the park and be outside as much as i can because it sadly will soon come to an end. i love halloween, soup, thanksgiving, conference, fall tv, football (just kidding)-this is the best time of year....enjoy!
ps in other news nolan has the biggest front teeth ever. is it weird that if they get bigger or he doesn't grow into them, that i want them shaved? seriously...check out those chicklets!

seth listens to x96 every morning on the way to work. he loves the show. one morning while he was listening they mentioned that they were sponsoring the Bee's game and that it was kid's night and they needed a kid to throw out the first pitch. being the great dad he is seth called and got carson the spot. it was a really great experience for carson and our family. carson threw a great pitch. we are so proud of our little guy!

"the mother of all workouts"

so i have been doing p90x. it has been great. i have been posting on facebook when i complete the day and although i am sure it is annoying to some people it really helps me feel accountable for the workout. i have had a lot of people ask me about the results. to be completely candid i haven't lost one single pound-i have about 36 days to go so we will see what the final result is. as far as being disappointed, i am not. i feel so much better. i have never been very good at working out, but now the days that i miss or don't have a very good workout i feel yucky. seth and i have also decided to start running together so for the past week we have been running up to the lake and back (about 3 miles). it is nice to start somewhere is all i will say about that. each day we run i feel stronger and better and look forward to having it be "cake". i know there will be chuckles at this but turning 30 and having my fourth baby really waged war on my body. it is crazy how fast your metabolism can slow down. but as i look at my stretch marks and imperfect body i don't see ugly i see "war wounds" (as my cousin maggie calls them). i see isabella, carson, sophia, and nolan-and i'm grateful.

baptism

carson got baptized. we are so proud of him. there is something so great about carson. he has such a peaceful way about him. he doesn't like a lot of fanfare or attention. he is confident in who he is. i love our little guy so much!
ps i LOVE that seth doesn't wear the jumpsuit.

'roids rage.

so i think there is something wrong with me. i am too cynical. i just read the archives of my blog and although there have been a lack of posts lately, the posts there have been have anything but fun or more of a "make fun" tone. i have decided the reason i am this way is because of my thyroid. yes peeps, i have a problem with my thyroid. it sucks. i am blaming everything on it. my grumpiness will henceforth be called "roids rage". if i unfriended you on facebook or didn't say hi to you at the store, this is why. please understand.
in all seriousness i want to get back on track of chronicling the lives of our busy family. so get ready for some bragging and boasting (which are the same thing-fyi). its time to turn the page.
and finally to address my commenter's:
1. i am so worried about those of you who are in prison and need my help! please leave some kind of clue and i will call the authorities right away!
2. to those of you who say my blog is popular-thanks! i will click on your ads later!
3. thanks for offering us "enhancement" pills. i think the 4 kids should prove that we don't really need help in this area yet. i'll hit you up in a couple of years.

.....oh shoot there i go again. cynical as ever. at least i recognize, right? stupid roid.

xoxo.

beat/win

something seth and i love to do is discuss sports. not really. the teaser in me actually does like to ask seth sports questions. it drives him nuts. i am amazed with the amount of baseball i have watched and still there are things i don't know. for example, i learned the other day that the phrase, "you won the yankees" is incorrect the correct phrase is, "you BEAT the yankees". seth explained the reasoning is that if carson's team "won" the yankees, we would need a bigger car to bring the team of 8-year-olds home. makes sense. it really got me thinking about the motivation teams would have if they really did "win" the players. not just on a little league level but imagine on a professional level-in any sport. say that if a team "won" the lakers you could choose a player from the lakers to be on your team...mind blowing.

look away crazies! i'm not private anymore!

so i'm not going to have a private blog anymore. there is only one reason. i am currently at my sweet grandma boyle's house and she wants to see my blog and this is the best way. wish me luck.

year(s) gone by....

nolan is 1 today. although he is my 4th baby i have reflected on this past year today and felt sad. let me clarify that i am happy he is one and healthy. i feel so blessed that he has been such a content healthy little boy. i am sad because time moves so fast. if the song "time in a bottle" came on i would burst into tears. he is such a sweetie, we love him so much. it almost feels like new years and time to make resolutions for an even better second year for nolan. here's to a year of making more time for 4 beautiful kids....

life.

its going to fast! isabella turns 10 on monday! needless to say, i am beside myself. i can't imagine how fast the next ten years will go by and then she will be...don't even say it. life is crazy that way. i was looking at my baby today and he is starting to look like a toddler and i just wanted to cry. i just feel like i can't keep up, ya know? i feel like if i blink i will miss it all. i really need to be better about slowing down and enjoying every moment.
today we went to "how to train your dragon" for the second time. i am not a second time kind of girl. i don't re-read books or re-watch movies (only "she's the man") but this movie is really special. i am so amazed by the writers who crank this stuff out. how would it be to have THAT story in your head? i love to write and would love to write a story but i think i must be on the editorial side because the only stories i can think of are already written...i would just tweek them and re-write them.
i love thinking about my ideas for books/stories because i crack myself up. not because they are hilarious ideas but because they are horrible ideas. i could write a really good book with the narrator being an old grandma who gets annoyed by teenagers. hahaha....seriously that is all that i can think of and i think that is funny-not in a "pity me, i don't have any ideas way" but a "i can't believe i can't get some kind of crazy mythical character in some exotic land idea." i just don't imagine things that aren't real, make sense? i don't have dreams with flying pigs and rainbows-i dream about real people in real situations.
some people have nightmares about monsters. i have nightmares about living in nazi germany and escaping the holocaust. seth always ruins it and we get caught because he gets mouthy at the border. horrible, right?
i never remember my good dreams, probably because they are just repeats of my day..(get it? i "live" my dreams haha...) no seriously my realistic brain does not produce a dr. mcsteamy prince for me.
there are worse things in life, i guess. my baby daughter could be turning 10.
:)

seth and i went to new york

it was really fun. natalie was a superstar. we were really proud. it is a good thing to get away and remember why you love your spouse so much. he is an expert traveler and loves people, places and things as much as i do. so glad that i married someone like you. i'm seriously so blessed-seriously.
PS i am a little behind. this trip was in december. i just went with bella and some great friends/next door neighbors-pictures and the best stories EVER to come!

friendship

this post is in no way shape or form a "reaction" to anything. i have just been thinking a lot lately about how as a friend i should come with a disclaimer. it would read:
"if you choose me as a friend you should be aware that:
-i'm really bad at getting back to you
-i rarely listen to my voicemails
-i forget birthdays
-i get really overwhelmed
-i'm needy
-i borrow things
please note that these issues are almost impossible for me to reverse. i am so busy in my head that my forgetfulness is always getting in the way of being a good friend. please accept my apologies upfront. i love you and would do anything for you, you would just need to remind me a few times".
in summary...THANK YOU dear friends who put up with me and love me in spite of anything else. some day when our lives slow down you will receive amazing thoughtful gifts with long meaningful notes on how much i appreciate you.....
xoxo

the kevin bacon game...and television programs

i can't help it...i LOVE making connections with people. it is probably one of my favorite pastimes. i love meeting someone and finding out if we know any similar people and connecting the dots. i wonder why i like this so much? it drives seth crazy. i think it is just nice to meet someone and have a frame of reference and maybe with that "frame of reference" i won't seem so crazy? maybe? i don't know....
in other news...
i have pretty much decided that one of my talents is watching television. i know this sounds like a joke, but its not. i do not consider myself as a couch potato, watching television for me is like a humanities major going to an art museum. i NEVER just sit and watch random television (notice how i am not calling it tv :) i schedule myself for the programs that i enjoy. i like to pick them apart and think about the writing and think about how clever writers are. here are favorite programs in order of preference(notice how i am not calling them tv shows):
mad men
modern family
lost
parks and rec
the office/30 rock (its too close to call)
chopped
throwdown with bobby flay

i also watch one show that is just trash and i am embarrassed that i watch it:
The Bachelor "On the Wings of Love"
it is pretty much the most ridiculous show on tv (yes it is a "show" on "tv"-i obviously don't respect it). i watch it in awe because i can't believe people really subject themselves to it. poor, poor tenley....
well, that's pretty much my life in a nutshell. television programs.

being a mom.

so as a young child bride i found out i was pregnant with bella-it was a huge surprise, we had only been married a few months-i thought i had cancer originally, but no. i also loved when people would see me and my ripe belly and ask when we got married and then when i was due and do math in their heads....let's see...hmmmm...seth would always make it sound like it was a shotgun wedding and i would let him because it was funny. back to the point-when we found out, my aunt gave me this amazing article she found in a reader's digest. she read it to me and i didn't really understand, now i do. i always remember it during quiet moments. mostly with the ups and downs of being a mom. when nolan cries himself to sleep especially, i love seeing him all tuckered out after a long day, like the picture above, my heart melts. anywho, enjoy this article. its special.
It is "Condensed from "Everyday Miracles" and credits Dale Hanson Bourke:

Time is running out for my friend. While we were sitting at lunch, she casually mentions that she and her husband are thinking of "starting a family." What she means is that her biological clock has begun its countdown and she is being forced to consider the prospect of motherhood.

“We’re taking a survey,” she says, half joking, “Do you think I should have a baby?”

“It will change your life,” I say carefully, keeping my tone neutral.

“I know,” she says. “no more sleeping in on Saturdays, no more spontaneous vacations…”

But that is not what I mean at all. I try to decide what to tell her.

I want Her to know what she will never learn in childbirth classes: that her physical wounds of child bearing will heal, but that becoming a mother will leave an emotional wound so raw that she will be forever vulnerable. I consider warning her that she will never read a newspaper again without asking, “What if that had been my child?” That every plane crash, every fire will haunt her. That when she sees pictures of starving children, she will wonder if anything could be be worse than watching your child die.

I look at her manicured nails and stylish suit and think that no matter how sophisticated she is, becoming a mother will reduce her to the primitive level of a bear protecting her cub. That urgent call of “Mom!” will cause her to drop her best crystal without a moment’s hesitation.

I feel I should warn her that no matter how many years she invested in her career, she will be professionally derailed by motherhood. She might arrange for child care, but one day she will be going into an important business meeting and she will think about her baby’s sweet smell. She will have to use every ounce of discipline to keep from running home, just to make sure her child is all right.

I want my friend to know that everyday decisions will no longer be routine. That a five-year-old boy’s desire to go to the men’s room rather than the women’s at a restaurant will become a major dilemma. That issues of independence and gender identity will be weighed against the prospect that a child molester may be lurking in the restroom. However decisive she may be at the office, she will second-guess herself constantly as a mother.

Looking at my attractive friend, I want to assure her that eventually she will shed the pounds of pregnancy but she will never feel the same about herself. That her life, now so important, will be of less value to her once she has a child. That she would give it up in a moment to save her offspring, but will also begin to hope for more years – not to accomplish her own dreams, but to watch her child accomplish his.

My friend’s relationship with her husband will change but not in the way she thinks. I wish she could understand how much more you can love a man who is always careful to powder the baby or who never hesitates to play with his son or daughter. I think she should know that she will fall in love with her husband all over again for reasons she would now find very unromantic.

I want to describe to my friend the exhilaration of seeing your child learn to hit a baseball. I want to capture for her the belly laugh of a baby who strokes the soft fur of a dog for the first time. I want her to taste the joy that is so real it hurts.

My friend’s quizzical look makes me realize that tears have formed in my eyes. “You’ll never regret it,” I say finally. Then, squeezing my friend’s hand, I offer a prayer for her and me and all of the mere mortal women who stumble their way into this holiest of callings.

good times.

"good times" (think of it said like molly shanon on snl) is a phrase that i will forever love and use. its just a great, general way of saying something...filling the space. if there is ever a dull moment i know i can just say "good times" and get a laugh or two (at least on from myself). so here are of few of the good times going on with me:

private blog
everyone knows i was anti but when a friend informed me that she had a stalker coming from my blog and then she noticed he (of course its a male :) was on my blog first and for a long time, i was officially creeped out. i know that we are all guilty of stalking blogs...watching the former cheerleader from high school's blog b/c maybe she got fat or miserable, yadda, yadda, yadda...just kidding on that one, who's creepy now? no seriously, there is not a single cheerleader from my high school who was bratty. in fact many of them were my friends and some of the nicest people i know. :) back to the point, i thought it would be better to just go exclusive. so if you are reading this your self-esteem just went up a few notches you are officially "backstage" or "vip"....

my kids are growing up so fast
nolan...my baby...just got his first 2 teeth!! time is moving so fast and i feel like i am going crazy trying to keep up. i am going to be posting more about the fam fam so please understand i'm not trying to brag, my kids are just awesome. don't get depressed when you read about us, we're just so seriously blessed. :)

tv
tv is pretty much my social life so i'm going to just give a little recap of shows i love. old friends on tv and new ones i have made:
modern family- by far my favorite new show. its so refreshing. seth and i have learned that no family is perfect and it is nice watching lovable disfunction.
the bach-holy funny. i love the cat fights, crazies and everything in between. i do worry that i need to repent for hating vienna so bad.
parks and rec-this show has really grown on me. so proud of amy. ( i don't have to add her last name b/c we're friends like that)
glee-love. the writing is kind of weird but i love watching a show that makes me feel like i was pretty awesome in high school :)
mad men-still keeps me thinking. i think betty's new love is going to be a mess.
there are so many more but those would be my official tv bff's for now.

well mom, thanks for reading my blog....
merry january from the king fam.

private

yes, the fateful day has come, i am too popular to keep this blog open to the public. i am going private. truthfully i am doing it b/c i hate writing and not knowing "who" is reading it, i feel like i am hindered by what i write. (basically there are people i want to make fun of and i want to make sure they aren't reading my blog*) so if you want an invite to the blog.com email me your email address.
thank you very much.

*i am totally kidding about making fun of people, i NEVER do that.
